About us

Tiny Tickers is an independent, international charity, based in the UK. Our focus is on heart disease that develops before birth (i.e. fetal or congenital heart disease).

We are concerned with improving the detection, care and treatment of heart problems in babies, before birth and around the time of birth (known as the antenatal and perinatal periods).

Our Trustees are concerned parents who are supported by medical experts in the UK and Europe.

Once a child is born with heart disease, this is known as congenital heart disease (congenital literally means "born with").

Our Patron: Oliver Rothschild

Oliver Rothschild, founder and principal of Buchler Rothschild Investments, brings a wealth of experience to the charity.

Where are we working?

The charity is based in the UK and (resources permitting) provides on-site training to UK maternity hospitals in fetal heart scanning.

We provide educational material, such as CDs, posters and leaflets that compliments our training.

We also provide information through our website to anyone interested in fetal heart disease, anywhere in the world.

What is an "echo"?

An "echo" is a common name for an ultrasound scan.

A "fetal echocardiogram" is an ultrasound scan of a developing baby's heart in the womb and is often performed around 20 weeks gestation. At this stage the heart is about the size of a pea!

Our supporters

The first 2 years of our training programme was supported by a major grant from the British Heart Foundation.

In 2007-8, we received a grant from the BHF to enable us to develop national strategies to improve screening, to compliment our local training programme.
We continue to work with the BHF, as part of the CVC (see below).
We acknowledge and thank the many Trusts, organisations and individuals who have also supported us by grants and fundraising events over the years.

Member of the Children's Heart Federation - representing organisations linked to children with heart conditions in the UK.
Member of the Cardiac and Vascular Charity Coalition (CVC) - a national coalition of over 40 voluntary organisations with an interest in promoting and protecting cardiovascular health. See Publications.

Other "echo" charities?

There are several charities and organisations using the name or abbreviation "echo" or "ECHO".

In 2008, to avoid confusion, we changed our name from echoUK to Tiny Tickers.
