Awareness
Tiny Tickers works to raise awareness of both the need for improved detection rates of heart babies before birth and the symptoms of congenital heart disease immediately after birth.
The need for improved detection rates
Unlike Down Syndome and Spina Bifida which both have high pre-birth detection rates (85%), congenital heart disease (CHD) has a much lower detection rate. This may be due to a lack of understanding of the benefits of early detection and Tiny Tickers is working hard to change this.
Tiny Tickers raises awareness of heart babies and their particular challenges with both health professionals and the general public through campaigns and its day to day work and by collaborating with other organisations to help spread the word.
Think HEART
Many babies with heart problems are not diagnosed before birth, so it is crucial to recognise the signs of heart problems as soon as possible after birth, as certain undetected heart conditions can be fatal if left untreated. See Think HEART for the 5 signs of heart defects in newborns.
