Training
Tiny Tickers provides specialist, on-site training in maternity hospitals, to improve the detection of congenital heart disease before birth.
This training focuses on improving the quality of heart screening at the routine “20 week” ultrasound scan. As this scan is already offered to most mothers, it is cost effective and has been proven to be the optimum time to detect heart disease before birth.
To date we have trained thousands of health professionals in two thirds of maternity hospitals across the UK, and helped to increase average national detection rates over the past decade from 25% to at least 37%. In 2010/2011 over 250,000 more women will have received better quality screening of their baby’s heart as a direct result of our training.
We have shown that with the right training and support, health professionals are able to detect more babies with congenital heart disease in their local hospitals and give these babies the chance of a better start in life.
“When the tiny tickers trainer attended this hospital all the staff found the level of training excellent. The trainer was able to share her experience and knowledge at the level which we all found easy to understand and she helped us gain confidence in our ability to reproduce the correct views of the heart. She showed remarkable patience and was able to fully understand our difficulties in producing good images. Excellent training”. Superintendent Sonographer (2010)
