Former Publications (to be phased out)

a) Leaflet (2002)
Articles and news about heart babies and life-saving treatments:

  • heartbreak - heart disease affects 100 newborn babies every week, so what can we do about it?
  • new hope - in some heart conditions an incredibly delicate "operation" can be performed to open a closed heart valve, in the womb, avoiding premature delivery and resulting in healthier babies
  • buying time - babies are not the only ones who benefit from detection of heart disease;  parents often find it easier to cope with the emotions of heart disease if they know in advance
  • breakthrough - a revolutionary technique for measuring the tiny electrical signals in a baby's heart, whilst still in the womb, using just sensors on the mother's tummy

b) Document: "About echoUK" (2002)
A brief introduction to the charity when it was known as "echoUK"

c) Video & MPEG (2000)
A moving account of the different experiences of parents of heart babies;  how doctors and sonographers are working to improve the detection of heart disease and why the echo charity was set-up.

In the video, doctors and sonographers explain the issues and the parents tell how an early diagnosis of a heart problem in their babies affected them.  This video is ideal for learning more about the issues and helping to raise awareness.
