Every pay day at SuperBreak, staff are given the chance to raise money for a charity of their choice.
Tracey Whiteley, Affiliate Marketing Executive, chose Tiny Tickers as she was aware that it was a charity very close to her good friends Natasha Pye and Andy McKellar. Sadly they lost their little boy Tommy at 11 days old to an undetected heart condition and Tracey wanted to do something in his memory. The results of Tommy’s post-mortem showed that he had a form of Transposition of the Large Ductus Arteriosus, a congenital heart defect that can be corrected with surgery. Surgery that has a 98-99% success rate if only his heart condition had been detected. Tiny Tickers’ vision is that every baby born with congenital heart defects has equal access to high quality prenatal and neonatal services, to ensure their condition is detected as early as possible; their care begins at the first opportunity; and their family accesses the best possible information and support.
Everyone pulled together as a team to help raise as much money as possible and lots of members of staff got involved and baked! There were lots of different tasty delights to choose from, ranging from lemon drizzle cakes, Victoria sponge, chocolate cakes, banana loafs and salted caramel rocky roads! Not to forget the ever popular homemade pizzas made by Gill Bell in the Product Team and Jan Church’s Third Party Marketing, cheese scones!
The majority of auction prizes were sourced externally as Tracey wanted staff to save their money to spend on the day! Huge thanks go to all those who made the 38 kind and generous donations in total! Lots of the spirits and wine came from Matt Briggs who is a Slimming World Consultant in York, Natalie Turner, a Younique Make Up presenter, kindly donated make up worth £40, Bettys Tea Rooms in York donated a Jam and Marmalade Preserves Gift Set and we had a pair of tickets donated to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory in London, along with lots of other prizes too. The star prize was a 2 night Eurostar trip and 4 star accommodation in Paris!
The fundraising efforts of the team raised an amazing £526.71, which will help us to continue to develop our innovative and life-saving work for babies who have complex heart conditions.
