We’re excited to introduce our latest resource: ‘Our New Heart Baby,’ a booklet designed for siblings of babies with CHD.
Developed in collaboration with cardiac liaison nurse specialists and clinical psychologists, ‘Our New Heart Baby’ helps children understand CHD and the journey from diagnosis to surgery and beyond.
This engaging booklet features:
- Age-appropriate photos and illustrations
- An easy-to-follow story
- Interactive activities, including: colouring pages, space for expressing thoughts and feelings and a ‘Wonderful big brother or sister’ certificate.
Our Head of Projects, Vicky Woodmansey, says: “We are absolutely delighted to offer this informative activity booklet for siblings of babies with CHD. We’re often asked for ways to help support older siblings with the news that their baby brother or sister has a heart condition, and we hope this resource will be a lovely conversation starter to help them explore their feelings about it.
“The booklet is designed to give child-friendly information about CHD, a story to read aloud or give to older children as well as activity pages and an all-important certificate, as we know what a special role brothers and sisters play in their heart sibling’s life.“
To showcase the booklet’s contents, our Communications Officer’s children, Sophia and Aria, created a brief video demonstration. Sophia and Aria are big sisters to heart baby, Emi, who recently turned two.
