Yorkshire Three Peaks
Yes! We’re doing Yorkshire Three Peaks again this year. The challenge, taking place on Saturday 14th September 2019, is to complete the 24 mile route (38.6km) in under 12 hours. This includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent, so make sure you pack those plasters! Last year our Tiny Tickers Trekkers raised a phenomenal £4375.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This is an extremely tough event over hilly landscapes. The 24 miles must be completed within 12 hours, with regular targets on the route. It is an enormous, yet hugely rewarding, challenge for walkers.
This event is open and our Tiny Tickers Team will be part of this bigger event. We’ll be on hand to support you with any questions you might have leading up to the big day. The most important question being, “Will there be a cake stop?”. Answer: “Yes there will be.” Second most important question, “Will my feet hurt?” Answer: “Yes most likely!”

Last year, Tiny Tickers’ Head of Training, Anne Rhodes, was part of the heroic team trekking for heart babies. She says, ’24 miles, 70,700 steps, 3 peaks; climbed in the Yorkshire rain! It took 11hrs and 40 minutes of fast paced non-stop hiking. It certainly was a challenge. Muddy, wet and slippery. The climbs up were painfully hard and I felt so slow. We were under pressure to make it to the next checkpoint in order to be allowed to carry on. Walking turning into limping after the second peak, I seriously doubted whether I would make it to the next checkpoint 9 miles away before taking on the third and last climb of the day.
Every step of that painful 9 miles I thought about the reason I was doing this challenge. One third of serious heart defects go undetected before birth and earlier detection of congenital heart diesease can massively increase the survival chances of these babies. Every one of our heart babies has a greater challenge ahead of them. It is longer and more painful and often the end must never seem to be in sight. Knowing that these funds will go towards the vital work that Tiny Tickers does (and that I am proud to be a part of) is what pushed me on.
It was a privilege to have taken part in this event with such an amazing team. All were a fantastic support and put in 100% effort and we all did the very best we could!’
